Crimson Topaz is a Rubin x Vanda cross that first originated in the Czech Republic in the 1990's.
Fruit is orange-red to crimson striped over a yellow background. The apple is crisp, juicy, and sweet-tart, similar to Honeycrisp. Equal to Honeycrisp in juice and taste, superior to Sweetango. Resistant to browning once cut.
The tree is vigorous, a precocious cropper and the fruit does not drop. Resistant to apple scab and moderately resistant to mildew (from Sam Vogel MA). Harvested around October 2nd in Boston.
