Also known as Zabergau Reinette, this heirloom variety first originated around the Zaber River in Germany, 1885.
Very large, gold-brown russet fruit. Crisp, white flesh. Rich and nutty, developing into sweet and spicy flavors. Triploid. A good pie or fresh eating apple, all-purpose. Sometimes also used for cider.
Ripens in late October in upstate New York, flavors develop off the tree. Peak flavor between November-February. Hardy to zone 4.
