Parentage/Origin: Northern Spy x MN 447; Minnesota, 1973. Harvest: September-October. Stores well. Description: Large, red striped fruit. Firm, crisp, aromatic flesh; moderately acidic. Tree Characteristics: Tolerant to scab, and fireblight after the early years. Early annual bearing, hardy and vigorous tree. From Robert Iglehart in Iowa: "Sweet 16 are the favorite of everyone (even ahead of Honeycrisp) in the pick and eat orchard here. My daughter took a bite out of one and the first thing she said was `It tastes like a cherry Twizzler'. That was a pretty profound, and accurate, description from a 10 year old. I'm not sure of the keeping and storage characteristics of them. But, they are awesome off the tree." A royalty of $1.00 is added to the base price of this tree.
