A heavy setting, medium-large, firm red plum with a crispy skin and spicy flavor, almost black when dead ripe. The flesh is yellow/pink color and the pit is very small. A very hardy cross from Yalta on the Black Sea, much better tolerance of bacterial spot and brown rot than the California varieties. A cross between a Japanese and Myrobalan plum. Ripens early season, about August 5 in New York.
