Black Twig is an American heirloom apple, first discovered as a seedling in Tennessee, 1800's. Tennesee's state apple and reportedly the favorite apple of Andrew Jackson.
The apple is red over yellow, firm, tart and tannic. If allowed to age, sweetness and acidity balance out a bit more. Great for cider, baking, and eating. Tannic juice.
The tree is vigorous, annual bearing, with dense drooping branches. Moderately resistant to all modern diseases. Ripens late September through October in upstate New York, keeps all winter. Diploid.
