Frequin Rouge is a bittersweet (amere in its native French) heirloom cider variety from Normandy, France.
The apple is yellow with red stripes, crisp, juicy and strong in tannins. It is a very popular cider variety in France, and has been used there since the end of the 19th century.
This heirloom is precocious and productive but tends to biannual cropping with some susceptibility to scab and fire blight. Matures early midseason.
