Gilpin is an old Virginia variety, dating back to early 19th century.

A small, excellent cider apple. Yellow skin, usually red-striped. Crisp, juicy with a complex sweet flavor.

Tree is vigorous, spreading, hardy, and moderately resistant to major disease. Late blooming. Fruit hangs on the tree late into the season. Excellent long-term storage; esteemed as table apple late into the spring. Hardy to zone 4.
