Vilberie is a French cider variety from Brittany that was first brought to the UK in the mid 19th century.
This heirloom apple is very bitter with high astringency, bittersweet. Bitterness is harsh - best used in blending. If one likes a very stout cider, this is the one, it produces a very full-bodied, robust, and fruity cider.
The tree is vigorous, precocious and productive, with late blooming flowers and late harvest, fruit 2" and green. Supposedly self-fertile. Fireblight susceptible.
